Coding Activities & Worksheets to Celebrate Easter in the K-5 Classroom 

Celebrating Easter in the elementary classroom can be an exciting time for students. For teachers, it is an opportunity to engage students in fun and educational activities that incorporate the holiday’s themes and traditions. One way to do this is through coding-inspired activities and worksheets that teach kids logical and creative thinking. Here are some ideas for Easter activities:

Egg Decorating Algorithms

It’s Easter time and of course, your students are excited about decorating eggs. Elevate this activity by incorporating coding algorithms into it. An algorithm is a set of step-by-step instructions that describe how to perform a task. 

For this activity, you have to define a set of instructions about how the kids should decorate their Easter eggs. Here is an example: draw dots on the egg, use at least 3 colors, and glue at least one paper element to the egg (bunny ears or a celebration hat). Another example can be: draw lines on the egg, use no more than 3 colors, and put a sticker on the egg. Extra ideas: tie a ribbon on the egg, use pom-poms, or use pipe cleaners.

Students can experiment with colors and patterns to create their egg designs. At the end of the lesson, the students can share their creations with their classmates and discuss the algorithm they used.

Easter Sequence – Coding Worksheet

In coding, sequencing means arranging commands or instructions in the correct order to achieve a desired outcome. There are many ways to practice sequencing in the classroom, one of the most common ones being organizing and arranging step-by-step instructions.

This Easter, you can try something new. Our worksheet “Easter Sequence” focuses on reviewing and recognizing the color order and color sequence of different Easter-themed shapes. The students have to identify the correct color sequence and continue the sequence using the blank illustrations.

Bunny Hop Loops – Coding Worksheet

Students can learn the concept of loops by completing the worksheet “Bunny Hop Loops”. 

Loops in computer programming allow developers to execute a block of code repeatedly until a certain condition is met. Using loops in programming can simplify the code and make it more efficient, as it reduces the need for repetitive coding.

The goal of the “Bunny Hop Loops” worksheet is to help the bunny hop over obstacles and collect Easter eggs. How many times does the bunny have to hop to reach the Easter eggs? Hopping over obstacles, again and again, is a good analog to loops in coding.

Decode the Easter Egg Hunt 

Let’s test your students’ coding skills with an Easter Egg Hunt! Here is an example of an Egg Hunt for your classroom. 

Game Objective: Find all the hidden Easter Eggs by following the coding hints.

Instructions:

  1. Hide several Easter eggs around the classroom or the outside area.
  2. Write down a series of coding hints on small pieces of paper, each hint leading to the location of the next Easter egg.
  3. Each coding hint should be written in simple language and include basic coding concepts such as sequencing, loops, and conditionals.
  4. Separate the students into teams.
  5. The first hint should be given to the players, and they must use it to find the first Easter egg.
  6. The first Easter egg should contain the next coding hint, and so on until all the Easter eggs have been found.
  7. The team that finds all the Easter eggs first wins the game.

An example of a coding hint:

  • Start at the door and move forward five steps.
  • Turn right and take three steps forward.
  • If you see a tree, turn left and take two steps forward. Otherwise, turn right and take two steps forward.
  • Keep walking until you see a blue flower.
  • The Easter egg is hidden under the blue flower!
