Organised by KUBO Robotics and H.C. Andersen Festivals, the International STEAM GAMES 2023 Competition invites students from China and Denmark to participate in a fun-filled and exciting day of hands-on coding. 

The Competition is an exciting opportunity for young students (6-10 years) to celebrate and explore the world of H. C. Andersen and STEAM. It provides an excellent platform for young minds to showcase their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

“KUBO visits Hans Christian Andersen’s Hometown.”

Date & Place

The competition day will be held on 21st August at Odeon, Odense, Denmark.

Participants

The competition will bring together students from different nations. 

Team Requirements

The competition is open to 6-10 years old kids located in Denmark. Each team should consist of 2-3 students.

Preparation for the Competition

Equipment requirements

KUBO Coding Starter Set (#1030) and the green and orange function Tagtile®️ pieces from KUBO Coding+ Set (#10102).

Costume design

Encourage the use of recyclable materials and incorporate H.C. Andersen’s fairy tale characters.

Description of the Competition

The competition consists of two sections, On-site Coding and Demonstration.

On-site Coding Section

Each team uses TagTile®️ pieces to program the KUBO robot to complete a special mission. The mission will be about visiting H.C. Andersen’s hometown and it includes start and end points, and three must-pass points. The mission will be announced on the competition day.

Demonstration Section

Each team will design and create a costume for the KUBO robot before the On-site Coding competition. The costumes should be related to H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales and characters. Each team will prepare a presentation about their team, design concept & implementation process, and relevance to the H.C. Andersen world. The presentation should not exceed three minutes.

Why You Should Sign Up

By participating in this international competition, students will have an opportunity to experience a unique cultural exchange while learning and having fun. It is a great way to practise and showcase their learnings from school, make new friends, and understand different cultures. 

In addition, the competition focuses on the following learning outcomes. Through Teamwork and Collaboration, the participants will demonstrate their coding and tech skills by programming KUBO to complete the mission of visiting H.C. Andersen’s hometown. They will also strengthen their Arts and Drawing skills by creating a handcrafted costume for KUBO and their Presentation and Communication skills as they present their work to the judges. Finally, the kids will explore the magical world of H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales and learn about his life story and history, all while developing Literature and History skills.
